TARTAS AND RION DES LONDES
Only 15 minutes drive from the chateau in the countryside you will find these two small ancient towns where you can purchase any daily needs.

 

DAX
Only half an hour drive to the west from Chateau Rion you will find the city of Dax. Famous for its ancient Roman baths, although no longer used by visitors still greatly admired. There are modern thermos baths heated from natural hot springs available by doctor’s prescription to people requiring special medical treatment.

Dax also has many wonderful restaurants; shopping centre and regular bull fights are still held here.

 

MONT DE MARSAN
East from the Chateau is Mont de Marsan a very old town with two white water rivers crossing through it. It has a large shopping centre many wonderful restaurants and also the very large hypermarkets where you can purchase larger quantities of European food stuffs.

LES LANDES
In the Cote Les Landes you can visit many different chateaux, go surfing on the many beaches or visit the small fishing villages.

PYRENEES – only two hours from the chateau you can:
White water raft, ski, hike and visit ancient Basque villages and towns where shopping is tax free on the border of Spain and France.

BORDEAUX AND BIARRITZ
Visit one of the many antique fairs always held in this area or visit one of the many antique shops famous in this area.

LOURDES
This holy city is famous for its stunning examples of Roman Catholic churches.

 


COTE PAYS BASQUE
An hour drive from the chateau takes you to the very old city of Bayonne where the Basque region begins. You can follow directions to the famous beachside towns and harbours of Biarritz and the ancient town of Saint Jean-Le-Luz where the Sun King Louis XIVth was married. Just over the border from France close to Biarritz you will find the old Basque beach town of San Serbastian with its outstanding restaurants many of which you will find in the Michelin Guide.

PAMPLONA
An ancient typically Spanish city famous for it’s festival of the ‘running of the bulls’ which takes place every year in July.

AUGUST is the month of festivals in France. Known as La Fete guests can experience cultural events that include markets, folk dancing and music and bull fighting.
